HYDERABAD: A visit to a private clinic for medical consultation turned out to be a nightmare for a young woman as a 58-year-old male doctor administered a sedative injection and allegedly abused her. The patient who was semi-conscious could sense what was happening to her but was unable to react. Once she recovered from sedation, the 21-year-old managed to call her fiance, who rushed to the clinic, rescued her, and lodged a complaint with the police.
Police said that a similar complaint had been lodged against the doctor three-and-a-half years ago.
The incident which happened on Monday evening, came to light on Tuesday. The woman patient, a beautician by profession, visited Geetha Clinic at Lalbazaar to consult Dr Ganesh Mahadevan for acne problem at around 7 pm Monday. The woman had visited the doctor a month ago.
Claiming that an injection will purify her blood, cure acne and brighten up her face, the doctor administered an injection. Within a few seconds, she started to lose senses, and plunged into a semi-conscious state.
In a complaint to the police, the woman said that the doctor touched her private parts. Later, she was made to sit in another room of the clinic, and the doctor continued with his business of treating other patients.
While the doctor was abusing the woman after administering sedative, her fiance had called the woman a couple of times. She managed to dial the number of her fiance, Krishna Singh. The woman was not able to speak when he visited the clinic. Worried over her condition, he questioned the doctor about what happened to her, but the accused remained tight-lipped.
He rushed the victim to a corporate hospital where she regained senses and narrated her ordeal. The couple later visited Trimulgherry Police station and lodged a complaint against the doctor. The sedation caused by the injection lasted for more than an hour.
“We registered a case under IPC Section 354 (a) (physical contact and advances involving unwelcome and explicit sexual overtures) and one questioning the doctor,” said B Srinu Naik, SI at Trimulgherry Police station. He added that a case had been registered against the doctor three-and-a-half years ago for abusing a woman patient who visited the clinic.
