HYDERABAD: Bhavaninagar police arrested five people for murdering their relative and injuring three others during a wedding banquet (Walima) on October 5. Police seized lethal weapons from the accused.

The arrested persons were -- Mohammed Riyazuddin, 25, decoration works, resident of Yakutpura, Mohammed Jameeluddin, 26, resident of Charminar, Mohammed Nazeeruddin, 22, resident of Amannagar, Mohammed Sirajuddin, Amannagar and Mohammed Tajuddin, resident of Bhavaninagar.

According to police, on October 5, one Mohammed Afsar, 20, lodged a complaint with police stating his elder brother Mohammed Ahmed was murdered during his sister Rubeena Begum’s Walima (wedding banquet) at Hidayath function hall in Aman Nagar B.

Ahmed and Afsar were waiting on the road before the functional hall, to receive their friends for reception. At about 12: 20 am, when his brother was receiving their friend Zameer, one Riyazuddin (Ahmed’s brother-in-law), stabbed his brother Mukaram, resulting in a head injury. The complainant and his elder brother Mohammed Ahmed tried to rescue Mukaram,

Meanwhile the assailant Riyazuddin and his siblings Jameeluddin, Sirajuddin, Nazeeruddin and Tajuddin attacked Mohammed Ahmed with a Jambia. Ahmed received serious injuries and was admitted to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Based on this complaint, police had registered a case and took up investigation.

This family feud between Riyazuddin’s  and Ahmed’s  (deceased) families has been raging for over six years.Ahmed had married one Sajida, Riyazuddin’s sister, about six years back. After the marriage, the girl’s father Sirajuddin gifted a five-tola gold ornament to his daughter. However, Ahmed sold the gold when he was in dire need of money and this lead to a dispute between the brother-in-laws.

What started off as a minor squabble, escalated into an all out family feud. However, the bad blood between the two families was swiped clean by elders of the Muslim community through amicable talks.

On October 4, the night of Rubeena’s wedding banquet at Hidayath function hall, Riyazuddin came to take part in the revellment. But the two rival families had a heated argument which led to death of Mohammed Ahmed. “In the incident, Ahmed died receiving serious injuries,’’ DCP, South Zone, V Satyanarayana.
