HYDERABAD:A 50-year-old woman addicted to drinking, murdered her husband by strangulating him when he refused to give her money to buy liquor. The incident took place at Manikeswar Nagar in Osmania University police limits.

Police arrested the accused on Friday and produced her in court which remanded her in judicial custody.  The deceased was identified as A Chandraiah (53), a daily-wage labourer and resident of Manikeswar Nagar. His wife is Ramulamma.

Around 7 pm on Thursday, Ramulamma asked her husband Chandraiah for money to buy liquor on the occasion of Dasara festival but Chandraiah refused to give her money. Heated arguments followed between the two and it led to a scuffle. As Ramulamma assaulted her husband, Chandraiah fell to the ground and was unconscious. Then Ramulamma strangulated his throat, snuffing out his life,” said Osmania University police inspector V Ashok Reddy.

Locals, gathered near the scene, Ramulamma tried to escape by bluffing that her husband collapsed due to heart attack and died. Police arrived on the scene and found Chandraiah dead. They moved the body to mortuary for autopsy. It is is learnt that the PME report revealed that the victim had died after strangulation.

In another incident of a similar kind, a 30-year-old man killed his father, who refused to give him money to buy liquor. The incident took place at Navodaya Nagar in Kushaiguda police limits. The deceased was identified as Ellaiah (60), a  labourer. The accused is Laxmaiah.

A few days ago there was a scuffle between Ellaiah and his son Laxmaiah on a petty issue. Ellaiah then roughed up his son. An angry Laxamaiah left home and returned on Thursday for Dasara festival. On returning home, he asked his father to give him money to buy liquor. When Ellaiah refused to comply and vented his anger, Laxmaiah had heated arguments with his father. During the arguments, Laxamaiah slit his father’s throat and ran away from the place.
