Errant Driver Knocks Down Home Guard

HYDERABAD: A home guard had a narrow escape when a youth ran over his car while attempting to evade police check on Friday night near Alkapuri crossroads on Nagole road. In the incident, the home guard, Yadagiri Reddy (30) suffered multiple fractures in his right leg and shoulder. 

On Friday night at around 9.30 p.m, police were checking for drunken driving near the crossroad. Maneesh Reddy, a resident of Ghatkesar, who was driving Chevrolet car saw barricades at a distance, and steered the vehicle to left. He couldn’t proceed into the lane as he rammed the car into the iron barricades which were placed to stop people from escaping the check.

He shifted to reverse gear, turned the vehicle, and hit the service road. A cut-of party was placed as part of the measure to prevent such take offs. Yadagiri who tried to stop the car was run over and received grievous injuries. Even after the incident, the accused continued to drive the vehicle. Police parties chased him and caught him.

“We immediately took Yadagiri to Kamineni Hospital. He is out of danger,” said P Devender, inspector of LB Nagar traffic police. Yadagiri was married five-years ago,and has a son.

“Maneesh tried to escape as he did not have a licence. We booked cases under IPC Sections 307 (Attempt to Murder), 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others),” said   G Naveen Kumar, inspector of Chaitanyapuri Police. Cases were booked under others Acts too.
