GHMC Deletes over 4.77 Lakh Duplicate, Dead and Ineligible Voters

Kukatpally circle tops the list with 1,21,085 voters being deleted from the list followed by Khairatabad, Quthbullapur & Abids Circle

HYDERABAD: It’s official, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has deleted 4,77,972 voters from the electoral rolls in 18 circles of GHMC limits.

Kukatpally circle tops the list with 1,21,085 voters being deleted from the list followed by Khairatabad (Circle 10) with 50,112 voters, Quthbullapur with 43,140 voters, Abids Circle with over 44,000 voters and L B Nagar with 35,310 voters.

Of the 4,77,972 deleted voters, 53,980 were identified as duplicate voters, 5,458 were found to be ineligible, 22,508 were found to be dead, 3,49,217 voters were deleted as they shifted their houses and 46,809 were removed as their doors were locked.

GHMC has to issue notices to another 1,78,043 voters and deletions are expected to increase further in the days to come.  

District election officer and GHMC special officer Somesh Kumar said here on Saturday that the GHMC has deleted the names after due verification and issuing notices to the electors.

Interacting with newsmen, he said that as many as 27,12,468 voters has been identified which include duplicate voters whose names have been enrolled twice, dead voters and door lock cases. Out of which 25,34,000 notices were given to voters as per the directions of the Election Commission of India.

He said that the names which have been deleted have been kept in the Election Commission website.

In Greater Hyderabad limits 1.06 lakh voters have been enrolled twice in the electoral rolls, out of which 53,980 electors have been given notices and the names have been deleted.

About 65,000 dead electors have been identified out of which after due verification 22,040 names have been deleted, he said. With regard to change of address 16,41,499 electors were identified after issuing notices and 3.49 lakh names have been deleted. Nearly 8,76,000 door lock cases were found and after verification, 46,000 names have been deleted, the commissioner added.

As per the directions of the EC after verifying and issuing notices, action has been initiated, he said.
