Girls Allege Sexual Abuse by Lecturer

HYDERABAD:Eight girl students, all of whom  are below 18 years, studying at the Institute of Hotel Management Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, an institute under the tourism ministry, here on Saturday levelled sexual abuse allegations against their male teacher.

Reaching out to child rights activists through anonymous mails, they sought protection from guest lecturer Kanak Sharma, who they said, was being protected by principal Sanjay Kumar Thakur. According to the complaints, the principal has repeatedly refused to take action against the lecturer, who teaches ‘communication skills and personality development’.

“His behaviour includes conduct of uncomfortable physical activities for girls, holding special classes for girls, and use of vulgar language with girls that was making girls uncomfortable. Moreover, nobody took their complaints seriously,” said Gayatri Inavolu of Balala Hakkula Sangham.
