SLASH KEYBOARD

The newest keyboard app to hit the iOS market, Slash may be the best of its kind yet. What it does is, other than providing a sleek looking keyboard app that works like a charm, it also integrates several other services, so you don’t have to get out of the keyboard if you wish to search/share/look up a link or a photo or a story.

Here’s how it works. At the bottom of the keyboard, there’s a big black forward-slash; when you tap it, you open up a handful of mini-search engines that you can use without having to leave the keyboard. The app connects Foursquare, Google, Google Maps, Spotify, YouTube,Giphy and more and makes all of those services searchable and shareable right from your keyboard. And the app learns from your typing habits to provide better recommendations so the more you use it the more useful the recommendations become.

SPHERIFY

A new free Android app, Spherify is a fun photo app that turns your 360-photos and panoramas into mini planet-like images. Choose an image, highlight the areas you want to call attention to and the app generates beautiful and whimsical spherical photos.

You can also flip images vertically for a slightly different effect. The app works best with panoramas that are level and that have a full 360 view (so there are no gaps between the right and left edges of the frame).

HIPSTAMATIC FREE ON IOS FOR A LIMITED TIME

Hipstamatic, the app that really launched square iPhone photos with retro film filters (way before Instagram), brought in a major update out just in time for the recent iPhone 6S launch. The shooting experience also undergone a serious overhaul. Prior versions of Hipstamatic went to great lengths to replicate old film cameras; you had to swipe through your virtual lens collection, choose a virtual film, and shoot through a pokey virtual viewfinder. You can still do all of that in 300, but there’s a new “Pro” mode that makes it work pretty much like any enthusiast camera app - it lets you adjust focus, exposure, white balance, ISO, and shutter speed, and there’s an editing suite to complement your collection of virtual gear. And yes, you can now choose your aspect ratio as well, weeks after Instagram threw off its own square-shaped shackles. Hipstamatic 300 is out now in the App Store, and it’s free for a limited time.
