HYDERABAD: In a first, prisoners could soon be working at petrol pumps, doing repair works of buildings, etc. if Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services, VK Singh has his way.
As part of a new business model, the Prisons department decided to employ about 200 prisoners in petrol pumps run by Prisons department, Steel Furniture manufacturing units etc., he said. “It is observed that private industries have certain inhibitions in employing prisoners. So, Prisons department wants to break new ground so as to be followed by other civilian and government departments,” VK Singh said.
