Humour Meets Simplicity

They have a lot of mutual friends and met each other a number of times before they actually confessed to each other – ‘someone like you would be ideal for me.’ Actor Nandu and singer Geetha Madhuri tell us how they met, what they appreciate about each other and how their marriage is the perfect match.

HYDERABAD: Actor Anand Krishna popularly known as Nandu and singer Geetha Madhuri saw each other for the muhurat of Nandu’s film that for some reason did not see the light of the day. “She was there because she recorded a song for the film. That was the first time I saw her in flesh and blood. Before that I had watched her perform on the screen,” recalls Nandu.

“After that day, we met at various events. Once when the entire Tollywood fraternity came together to raise funds, another time, she was performing and I was a guest. Then we met at an awards function and all youngsters gathered backstage and we were all flirting with each other. That also was casual,” shares the actor.

Almost a year later, they bumped into each other at Prasad Labs, they exchanged numbers and Nandu laughs, “I don’t want to make it sound filmy, but it was a magical moment. For the first time it was just the two of us. We clicked instantly.”

They began talking, chatting and eventually became each other’s 3 am friends. They started hanging out often after that and there is one memory that the two of them cherish.

“We were both in the same area. I went to see her during my lunch hour and was there for just two minutes. After she finished her recording, she came to meet me on the set. We hung out till late in the night that day, just happily going around. We also clicked our first picture together on that night,” smiles the 27-year-old actor.

After that it didn’t take long for Geetha to tell Nandu that he is the kind of guy she would like to marry. “She told me that she wasn’t sure if we can marry each other, but she wanted to marry someone like me. I reciprocated but with a condition that we need to date before getting married,” recalls Nandu.

Geetha adds, “I had a lot of rules. I was keen on getting married immediately. I said we should not go around before the wedding.”

But Nandu was clear that he wanted to go through this phase of life. Ask him if he wanted to court and find out if they are a suitable match and he laughs, “Not at all. I was 100 per cent sure that I would marry her. I wanted to experience the courtship phase of life. I had bought a sports bike to take my girlfriend around.”

They also collaborated for a short film, Aditi. “That was also when we spent a lot of time together. They are all great memories. It was the time I broke all the rules I set for myself,” shares Geetha. They got married in 2014. “My parents knew from the start. His parents came to know through media reports. But it was all cool,” admits the 26-year-old singer.

With both of them in the same industry, they understand the complexities of their professions. Their schedules never match, but the couple ensures that they make time.

“Everything is uncertain in this industry. Some time ago, there were rumours flying about me. Had I married anyone else, my relationship would have gone for a toss. Because Geetha and our families understand how the industry works, we could ignore it,” says Nandu.

The couple share their birthday according to the Telugu calendar and they believe that it is a perfect match hence. “We celebrate our birthday with our families on Janmastami every year. We also celebrate our respective birthdays according to the English calendar with friends,” shares Nandu.

Geetha appreciates Nandu’s sense of humour. “He makes me laugh and he is also a sensible person. He knows when to take things seriously and when to chill,” she tells us.

Nandu appreciates Geetha’s simplicity. “She is a plain person who says exactly what she means. That makes the relationship easy,” he tells us.  The actor is currently busy with the post production of his next film, Pelli Chupulu that is most likely to release in the next two months.

Nandu tells us that Geetha is a better judge of scripts than he is. “I take my scripts home and she gives her honest opinion. But she also believes that life is uncertain and we never know what might work for us. So she encourages me to take up everything that comes my way,” he beams.
