GHMC on Overdrive, Removes 2,000 Illegal Hoardings

HYDERABAD:  After receiving clear cut directions from minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) K T Rama Rao, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) launched a special drive to remove all illegal hoardings, flexis, banners and posters, including those belonging to ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in the city on Friday.

Since last evening, as many as 2,000 hoardings, flexis belonging to private institutes, organisations and political parties were removed.

The special drive will be carried out for 24 hours, till all the illegal banners, posters and flexis are removed, GHMC Additional Commissioner (Health and Sanitation), Ravi Kiran said. A large number of illegal banners, posters and flexis of private institutions and  political parties were removed from Ameerpet, Maitrivanam, Begumpet, Somajiguda, Punjagutta, Khairatabad, Secunderabad and several other parts of the city. Ravi Kiran added that apart from slapping fines, GHMC would book criminal cases against those who put up these hoardings.
