HYDERABAD: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) today decided to field Sucharitha Reddy, widow of Congress MLA Ramreddy Venkat Reddy, who passed away recently, for the Palair Assembly bypolls in Khammam district.
"The party has decided to field Sucharitha Reddy for the bypoll," TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy said.
Reddy said the party is in talks with other political parties to support Sucharitha Reddy.
The Congress high command is likely to announce Sucharitha Reddy's name officially soon.
A senior Congress leader said YSR Congress, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and CPI have in principle agreed to support the Congress candidate in the bypoll.
The ruling TRS has already announced that it would nominate minister Tummala Nageswara Rao for the bypoll.
The polling will be held on May 16, the Election Commission had announced.
