HYDERABAD: A 19-year-old student has been arrested for allegedly raping and killing a woman at her residence in Dabeerpura here, police said today.
According to police, the accused Mirza Zeeshan Ali Khan, an intermediate student, had entered the house of the 36-year-old victim on November 3 last year for the purpose of theft. However, a scuffle broke out between him and the victim when she raised an alarm after spotting him.
"During the scuffle, the woman fell on the floor following which the accused pressed her neck and then strangled her with a wire. While she was unconscious, the accused allegedly raped her. He also took away her cellphone before fleeing from the place," Dabeerpura Police Station Inspector M Mattaiah said.
The victim was later found dead, he said.
A case had been booked under IPC sections 302 (murder), 380 (theft in dwelling house) and 376 (rape) in this connection.
