Hot? Brace for More Torrid Days Ahead

HYDERABAD: Its time for Hyderabadis to brace for an intense summer, as temperatures are soaring to new highs.  On Friday, 41.2 degree Celsius temperature was recorded, the highest so far. Going by the forecasts of the meteorological department, it is only going to get worse, ringing alarm bells for the citizens.

“This summer is going to be hotter compared to last year. In the  coming days, the temperature is going to rise further,” said YK Reddy, director, Metereological Centre, Hyderabad.

As temperatures soared, people found it difficult to go outdoors. Pedestrians, two-wheeler riders and travellers had a tough day owing to the scorching sun.

“This is a dangerous season, which will make people very weak and cause many illnesses. Therefore, people should take proper care during summer. They should go outdoors with proper protection, take lot of liquids to keep themselves hydrated and should not skip breakfast or meals. It is better to keep away from carbonated drinks and spicy foods during this season. More care has to be taken in case of kids, elderly people and pregnant women,” said Dr Srirang Abkari, internal medicine consultant at Aware Global Hospitals.

Even playgrounds, parks and popular hangouts and tourist palces like Necklace Road, Tank Bund, among others wore a deserted look due to the heat.  While people had a tough day, coconut vendors and sugarcane juice stalls had a field day, with customers swarming to their centres.
