GHMC unearths Rs 1.1 crore scam

Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials have unearthed a scam involving misappropriation of funds to the tune of `1.1 crore, due to fake weighbridge bills.

HYDERABAD: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials have unearthed a scam involving misappropriation of funds to the tune of `1.1 crore, due to fake weighbridge bills.


The scam came to light during assessment by audit wing of GHMC central zone. The contractors submitted fake weighbridge bills to escalate quantity of silt to be  transported to dumping yard after desilting of nalas.


“The contractors, to misappropriate GHMC funds, have produced fake weighbridge bills to escalate the quantity of silt transported,’’ an official release said.


GHMC booked cases against contractors involved in the scam under the Indian Contract Act 1872 and the contractors will be liable for punishment under fogery, criminal breach of trust and under other provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
