HYDERABAD: Six persons, including two students, were arrested by the police here on Friday for possessing psychotropic substances. Police seized 2.5 kg Alprazolam and 500 gm of Diazepam from them. The drugs are used to adulterate toddy. Officials say that 5 gm of Alprazolam is enough to adulterate 2,000 litres of toddy.
The arrested persons are K Kiran Goud (31), a toddy contractor from Kamareddy district; G Paandu Goud (25) and K Naveen(23), students from Siddipet district; Y Srikanth(24) from Kamareddy district; Mohd Azmath(24) from Tolichowki in Hyderabad and K Basva Raju (32) from Uddumgadda, near Hyderabad. “Kiran Goud used to purchase Alprazolam for Rs 1.30 lakh per 1 kg and Diazepam for Rs 10,000 per 1 kg from one Chary (45) of Karimnagar. He sold around 1 kg Alprazolam for Rs 2 lakh and 1 kg Diazepam for ` 20,000 per 1 kg,” DCP B Limba Reddy said.
