HYDERABAD: Residents of Bachupally protested against Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s (GHMC) inaction against illegal garbage dumping in their neighbourhood. Over 200 residents of the area staged a protest on Sunday.
“We are unable to even open our doors or windows,” said Arun Roy, an IT employee and resident of Maytas Hill County. The smell is unbearable during mornings and in the evenings when they burn the garbage, he said.

The GHMC had issued a notice in 2016 asking the public not to dispose garbage in and around the surrounding areas. But the practice has not stopped, complain the residents of the area. The city generates, on an average, 4,000 tonnes of solid waste a year. The collected wastes are dumped mainly at landfills located outside the city.
