HYDERABAD: Mobile applications reminding us about the next schedule to service the bike or car, the time to hand over the vehicles at service centres, are aplenty in our phones. How about one’s barber sending alerts on schedule for the next haircut, another app which updates one about latest hair styles? National Institute for Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (NIMSME) would be developing an app to increase customer base of barbers. However, sending alerts is not the sole feature of the app. It is being developed for barbers to maintain their customer data base and maintain their accounts.

"The ministry is developing the app. We have already started the work. Barbers can send messages to their customers about their schedules for haircut. We are taking inputs from various people. It is not for major saloons. It is for smaller saloons," said secretary of Ministry of Micro Small Medium Enterprises (MSME), K K Jalan, after launching a Workshop on Beauty and Wellness at NIMSME on Tuesday here.

He added that there is a lot of skilled workforce, but management skills are necessary to grab opportunities.

Director general of NIMSME M Chandrasekhar Reddy said the app is in nascent stage and the institute would be developing it. "We are working on it to enhance their business. This is first of its kind in India. And as of now, it is just an idea.

The Union Budget has some encouraging allocations to MSME sector, which will help in growth of the sector, added K K Jalan.
