HYDERABAD: Internationally renowned philosopher and author, Akeel Bilgrami, while speaking on the topic ‘The Threat of Fascism’ in the city on Saturday came down heavily on the ruling  BJP-led Central government and said India has not witnessed authoritarianism like this ever before.

The professor from Columbia University said that atypical of a Fascistic organisation, the BJP-led government has a ‘great desire’ to destroy anybody who opposes them.

Bilgrami said that in no other country a critique of government is called ‘anti-national’. Not sparing the Indian Left parties, he criticised them for considering only class differences in the society and ignoring the issue of caste.

Terming liberalism as ‘real enemy’, he said it comes “with a facade of moral high ground”.

The professor was speaking at a talk organised by the Hyderabad Collective.
