HYDERABAD: The Indian Journalists Union, in a statement issued on Tuesday, condemned the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raids on the offices and residence of NDTV founders Prannoy Roy and his wife Radhika Roy on Monday, for allegedly causing loss to a private bank.
The statement issued by IJU president SN Sinha, Secretary-General Amar Devulapalli, International Federation of Journalists, Vice President, Sabina Inderjit and Press Council of India, member, K Amarnath, said that it was not a coincidence that the raids came a few days after the BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra accused the channel of having an agenda against the BJP government in a discussion on the channel.
The statement said, “We beleive that the ruling party is misusing organs of the state to browbeat critics and enforce self-censorship on the media that do not conform to its narrative.”
