HYDERABAD: A three-day-old baby boy was allegedly stolen from his grandmother by an unidentified woman at the Niloufer Hospital here on Sunday. Basing on a complaint, police registered a case under Section 363 (punishment for kidnapping) and took up investigation.
According to Nampally police inspector R Sanjay Kumar, a 25-year old woman, N Nirmala, delivered a male child at the Petlaburj Maternity Hospital on Friday. As the child was born with some complications, the doctors referred him to Niloufer Hospital. At the time of shifting the baby to Niloufer, the maternity hospital staff took the details and thumb impressions of the attendants.
A woman registered herself as Manjula and tried to take the boy but the hospital staff refused to hand over the baby to her. The baby’s grandmother Kalpana gave her details and took the baby to Niloufer. Kalpana is a resident of Uppuguda and native of Appajipally in Mahbubnagar district.
Having failed in her first attempt to steal the infant, the accused woman, posing herself this time as a nurse at the Petlaburj maternity hospital, befriended Kalpana and accompanied her to Niloufer Hospital.
After the child was scanned, the Niloufer doctors asked Kalpana to come back the next day for reports. “While walking towards the main gate, the woman, who was holding the baby, asked Kalpana to fetch her a cup of tea. As soon as an unsuspecting Kalpana walked a few yards towards the tea shop, the woman escaped with the baby.
