A plastic recycling project in the city is ensuring we get the best out of waste

HYDERABAD:Did you know that an estimated 4 tonnes of plastic is collected every day in Hyderabad? Dumping of this could be a huge environment hazard. However, Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages (HCCB) in collaboration with Waste Ventures India Ltd, a social enterprise in waste management, launched a project in Hyderabad for plastic waste recycling.  Shukla Wassan, Executive Director Legal & Corporate Affairs flagged off the collection vehicles at the waste segregation facility of Waste Ventures this week.
The project aims to collect plastic waste in the city through dedicated fleet of collection vehicles and the  collected plastic is converted into useful products like T-shirts, Fabric, backpacks etc to close the loop and create circular economy on plastic.

Commenting on the association, Shukla Wassan, Executive Director Legal & Corporate Affairs, Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Pvt Ltd, said, “We are aligned with the World Environment Day global theme – ‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ and we wish to combat the challenges surfacing from single use plastic. Our long-term vision is to leverage the scale and resources of our entire system to ensure that all our packaging material is reused and recycled to minimise its environmental impact.”

On this occasion, Umesh Malik, Head of Public Affairs and Communication, Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd, explained the steps that HCCB is undertaking to manage plastic in effective ways to create the circular economy on the plastic. HCCB intends to create a circular economy on plastics by closing the loop, connecting every player in the plastic recycling value chain starting from waste collectors to recyclers. The integrated recycling programs shall be established through multi stakeholder partnerships to create an end-to-end ecosystem for plastic recycling in the country.
