HYDERABAD : When Dr. V. Mohan, chairman and chief of Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialist Centre (DMDSC) launched the campaign ‘let’s defeat diabetes’ with the message ‘the power to defeat diabetes lies in our hand’ seven months ago in Chennai, he was aware of the Herculean task that lies ahead of him, if he has to fight against the chronic diseases.  To keep it simple and practical, he has come up with the BLUE formula to defeat the sweet disease.

“There is no effective cure for diabetes till now. The only alternative is to educate the people and spread awareness about the diseases and encourage every individually specially between the age group of 40-60 to adopt a simple blue formula BLUE formula i.e. Blood Checks, Lifestyle changes, Understanding your food and Exercise. Dr. Mohan says doctors alone cannot prevent the diseases.  He stressed the importance of having multi sectoral approach where public contribution is of paramount importance.

The campaign is to spread the awareness and control about diabetes specially among the youth and encourage healthier lifestyle to make India diabetes free country. In order to achieve that goal, the Dr. Mohan Diabetes Specialist Centre (DMDSC) team organize seminars where necessary information regarding diabetes are being delivered to the people, who will in turn takes the messages to local levels thereby reaching the farthest of the country. Besides this, the team create a ite(www.letsfightdiabetes.com) which serve as a complete guide to diabetes patients where you can made queries associated with the diseases. They also make their presence in social media while fighting diabetes by giving the diseases an emotion or expression which they called ‘BLUEMOJI’ ‘ diabetes emoji’.

India has the second highest rate of diabetes in the world with 72.3 million people and another 90 million people at pre-diabetes stages. As of now, 23478 people have already taken the pledge. “I am  optimistic about defeating diabetes, but the role of youth will be very crucial in this journey” added Dr. Mohan.
