Demand for home automation systems booms in Hyderabad

City stands 4th in the country with 9% market share; Pune tops the chart

HYDERABAD: Reached office and the question plays on a repeat mode in your mind, whether you switched off the Air Conditioner or lights back at home?

Thanks to home automation, some people can escape such sticky situations by just opening an app in their smartphone and switching off the lights, fans, Air Conditioners or even close window curtains along with controlling surveillance systems of their house.

The number of people in Hyderabad taking up home automation to ease their lives is one of the highest in country.  As per a report titled ‘Home Automation in India-Future trends of the market’ released recently by Red Seer, a consulting firm, Hyderabad stands fourth among top-10 cities in the
country with 9 per cent of the Home Automation market share, after Pune (15%), Delhi-NCR (13%) and Mumbai (12%).

Speaking to some city-based home automation service providers revealed that spurt in real estate sector, with new high-end residential communities coming up in city’s suburbs like Gachibowli, Nanakramguda, Khajaguda, Kokapet or Rajendranagar has played an important role in driving demand for home automation.

High net worth individuals, mainly business/entrepreneurial class of people residing in these areas, apart from those in upmarket areas of Banjara Hills and Jubilee Hills, are those who are showing interest in home automation.

P Rajasekhar, Managing Director of city-based Brihaspathi Technologies, which provides home automation solutions said, “People who have invested crores or tens of lakhs in a house, usually do not mind spending a few more lakhs on home automation.

With high-end residential projects coming up in Hyderabad, the demand is good. Moreover, compared to Chennai or Bengaluru, Hyderabad also has political stability which helps in growth of real estate market and in turn helps home automation business.”

Abhishek Reddy, Director of eDomotics, which provides integrated solutions for automation, said, “Real estate business in Hyderabad is doing good and it has a direct impact on the home automation business, which is very good in the city. We provide home automation for around 40-50 houses in a year.”

What all includes home automation?
Sky is the limit. One can just have limited automation like only of lighting systems or can connect every electronic device like refrigerator, AC, fans, home theatre, music system and operate them from a smart phone

Automation can also help in monitoring energy usage and power budgeting
One can even control all electronic devices through voice command using smart devices like Amazon Alexa or Google Home, through home automation
Cost of automation can range anywhere between `1-20 lakhs or above
