BookMyShow and star hotels too being probed

According to sources, several IAS coaching centres in the city are collecting `1.5 lakh from each candidate but are not paying GST.

HYDERABAD: According to sources, several IAS coaching centres in the city are collecting `1.5 lakh from each candidate but are not paying GST. “We know that some coaching centres organise mass coaching for PG medical students in function halls with big LED screens. Though they collect huge amounts of money, they are not paying tax to the government. We have identified several other loopholes too. We will set right the tax evasion to some extent in the next one or two months, especially the service tax,” the official sources stated.

The Commercial Taxes department is also watching BookMyShow, Red Bus and several star hotels for evasion of GST. “Our team visited Mumbai to check the facts with regard to BookMyShow,” a top official disclosed. They also found that TSRTC is making wrong claims for the input tax credit. Likewise, big convention centres too are not paying service tax.

“CT officials are silently video-graphing the big fat weddings and using the same as evidence to collect the GST. Only two or three convention centres are paying GST properly. But, the rest are collecting `3,000 per plate per head but not paying the GST,” the sources said.
