HYDERABAD : IIID Showcase Insider 2018, the three-day interior design event for professionals at Hitex which ended on Sunday, hinted at restricting practice to well qualified and well deserving by bringing in licensing into the profession. “It may take a decade or more to. Become law and come into force. We want the government to introduce licensing system as we professionals deal with spaces which have health and safety issues. Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, and Indonesia. The show had 110 exhibitors showcasing 500 plus products in 30 and above categories and across over 7,200 sq meters area,” said Pratap JADHAV, National President of IIID at the inaugural speech.
Organised by The Hyderabad Regional Chapter (HRC), the apex body for the interior professionals in the field of interior design in India, Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IIID), the event showcased all verticals of the building industry. Renowned architects Sanjay Mohe and Pratap Jadhav, National President of IIID, spoke at the B2B exhibition organised by the professionals, for the professionals, and of the professionals. Pratap Jadhav said IIID has 31 chapters and 8,000 across India. There are three lakh interior design professionals in India. “Our focus is to enhance the quality of Interior Design Profession in India. We would like to focus on serious education of the Interior Designing in India,” he said.
He added that they are collaborating with 35 colleges and 12 universities, including Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University, Hyderabad. “Our role here is to enhance the quality of interior designing education, faculty training, he informed. Every year 10,000 students are entering into the profession.” He also announced about an upcoming summit September this year Jaipur, where they will announce a charter defining in what is quality interior design education. City designer Yashwanth Ramanamurthy already prepared a draft charter. “After the summit, we will reveal details of the chapter which will be submitted to the competent government authorities,” Jadhav said.
The Interior Design Industry size in India is estimated to be Rs 20,000 crore and Telugu states supposed to have one-tenth as its share which is put at Rs 2000 crore. The expo is expected to generate Rs 500 crore worth business post the event based on the response exhibitors received from the last year event. The show had 110 exhibitors. 2,000 business visitors visited on the day one alone. About 4,500 business visitors and 6,000 general visitors visited the expo,” informed Manoj.
Sanjay Mohe, another well-known architect, said that access to material, technology, sophistication also added its own challenges to the profession. Godrej & Boyce is showcasing its furniture brand “Script” to the local market through the expo. The script featured “premium expressive” furniture which focuses on functional design including customisable cabinets and reading corners among others. Exhibitor Varmora launched the largest format of 1200 x 2400 mm Accent Satvario tiles, which are the largest tiles in the country. City furnishing store Darpan launched a special fabric. Unique digital locks, Hastens Recliner beds costing `16 lakh also unveiled during the three-day expo. NKV Gypsum Plaster showcased material which is the replacement of sand, cement and lappam coating. Semi-precious stone tiles are also being showcased. Wall feature worth `25 lakh is among other on display.
Students of various interior designing and architecture colleges showcased innovative Bird Bathe, Art Installations and a unique Chair for the President of North Korea. Sandeep Saudari showcased unique chairs, furniture designs. The Meraqee Brand launched several architectural and interior products. The proceeds of the show will reportedly go towards setting up of IIID-HRC Resource Centre.
