KOCHI: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has intensified their campaign to make train passengers aware of safety measures to prevent thefts and accidents.
Hoardings and banners of these safety measures will be displayed at prominent places in railway stations.
RPF personnel have also come up with a set of guidelines for the passengers. They have been urged not to accept food and drinks from strangers.
The presence of unclaimed luggage in the trains and platforms should be immediately brought to the notice of railway authorities, the RPF or police personnel. Personal baggage should be chained and kept safely in the trains to prevent thefts.
Male passengers should not travel in coaches allotted for women.
Passengers are also prohibited from travelling in brake-van and guard lobby in the train. Alarm chains should be used only for emergency cases. And people should not travel by sitting on the roof of the train or standing on the footboards, say the officials.
Smoking and using liquor inside the trains and on railway premises are not allowed. Carrying inflammable objects, explosives, gas cylinders and petroleum products are also punishable.
Tickets should be purchased through the proper channel.
Using touts to obtain tickets will land the passengers in unwanted troubles.
The violation of security measures and suspicious movement of any persons on platforms and in trains should be intimated to the railway authorities or the RPF(phone 0471-2330502) without delay.
