Canines steal the show

All-India All-Breeds Championship Dog Show 2012 organised by the Canine Club Of Cochin commenced at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium here on Saturday.

On the first day of the event, pet lovers from across the state thronged the venue to watch the various breeds.  Obedience trial tests and All-India All-Breeds Championship are being organised as part of the event. 

Richard Stanly Savio Luiz, secretary of The Canine Club of Cochin, said that more than 300 canines belonging to over 60 breeds from across the country would be participating in the two-day show.

Dogs weighing less than a kg to over 100 kg would be exhibiting their skills. On Saturday,   obedience trials for pre-beginners, beginners and novices were conducted.

The All-India All-Breeds Championship saw  contests under the toy, utility, terrier, hound, pastoral, gundog and working dog categories being held at the various rings prepared at the venue. 

The contests would continue on Sunday and the winner would be awarded the title ‘Champion Dog’ and other trophies. The judges for the event are Peerpong Pisitwuttinan from Thailand, D Krishnamurthy, Sharat Sharma and C R  Patnaik.
