The meeting convened by Desiya Jalapatha Kudiyozhippikkal Virudha Samithi has urged the government to pay heed to the plight of the fishing community. The eviction of the fishermen from the coastal area in the name of development cannot be justified at any cost. They also asked the government to back out from the attempt to evict the fishermen from Ernakulam, Pachalam and Vaduthala areas.
The Samithi also demanded jobs and land for those who will lose their livelihood as the National Waterway comes up.
