Mammootty extends hand of hope on Birthday eve

It is a deed worth emulating. On his birthday eve, Malayalam actor Mammootty has donated Ayurveda medicines worth Rs 40 lakh to the burn victims of the Om Shakti firecracker unit blast at Mudhalipatti near Sivakasi.

The actor, who is celebrating his birthday on Friday, has added a touch of solace to the hurting people. “It was on Thursday morning that he received a call from a pharmaceutical company in Coimbatore. The company had placed an order worth Rs 40 lakh for the Ayurvedic medicine Agnijith from Pathanjali, the Ayurvedic chain belonging to the actor. The medicine, though expensive, is effective for treating burns. When the actor came to know that the order was placed to treat the burn victims, in an act of philanthropy, he asked us to supply the consignment free of cost,” said Jyothish, director of Pathanjali.

The medicines were sent to Sivakasi by 2 pm on Thursday and was handed over to the District Collector of Virudhunagar in the evening.

“The actor also said that the same medicine would be supplied free of cost to those who  were injured in the recent Chala LPG tanker tragedy, through the Ottappalam outlet of Pathanjali,” he said.

Mammootty is also the chairman of the Care and Share Charity Foundation.
