Collector to be inducted into KMRL director board

The Cabinet on Friday decided that the Ernakulam District Collector would be inducted  into the director board of the KMRL (Kochi Metro Rail Ltd).

The representation given to the district administration is expected to expedite the land acquirement procedure for  the metro project.

The decision came in the wake of mounting complaints that the efforts of the district administration were being sidelined by the KMRL. District Collector Sheik Pareeth said that the district administration will soon undertake measures to acquire land for yards and the 22 stations for metro rail.

“A study on land acquisition for stations and the yards has been entrusted to the NATPAC. As soon as it submits the report, we will initiate the measures for land acquisition,” he said.

The Collector said that National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has given permission to extend the Metro work to the national highway.  The first meeting of the reconstituted board of KMRL which includes the Central government representatives would meet on September 11.
