The Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry has welcomed the Central government decision relaxing Cabotage law for International Container Transshipment Terminal, Vallarpadam.
The decision will have a lasting and positive impact on the prospects of the ICTT, the Chamber pointed out. “Now it is possible for foreign-flagged vessels to transport cargo between Indian ports.
The decision will also help the terminal in working towards attaining its true potential.T he terminal has not been able to perform at the expected level owing to the stringent conditions of the Merchant Shipping Act.
International mainline vessels, which transship Indian containers through international transshipment ports can now commence services to Vallarpadam since feeder vessels will now become available to transship containers from Vallarpadam,” said Chamber president P Narayan in a statement.
