Janamaithri Centre at Thoppumpady

The district will soon have its first Janamaithri Centre at Thoppumpady police station.

The construction of the centre and the new advanced police station will start once the report of the project is sent to the Planning Board and examined by the District Collector.

A fund of `63.36 lakh has been sanctioned for the purpose recently from Union Minister K V Thomas’ MP development fund.

The purpose of Janamaithri Centre is to hold awareness classes and counselling activities as part of Janamaithri policing. Unlike Janamaithri police stations, the centre will conduct awareness classes on a regular basis and intensive counselling sessions.

“It was the initiative of K V Thomas to have an advanced police station in the area with a Janamaithri Centre functioning in the building. The fund was allotted last month. What remains is only a few formalities regarding the planning of the project,” police said.

A two-storeyed building will be constructed on the plot in front of the present Thoppumpady police station. One floor of the building will be exclusively for Janamaithri Centre, that will conduct counselling, team-building activities, seminars and awareness classes to civilians.

“It would take another year to complete the construction of the building. Once the tender is allotted the work will speed up. The fund for the construction of the building was the major hurdle before us. Only some paper works are left to start the construction. We plan to inaugurate the building by this time next year. Small group activities of Janamaithri in the city would be conducted here,” police said.
