In a major revolution in the renal transplantation scenario in the state, Medical Trust Hospital (MTH) on Monday successfully took out a kidney from a female donor without creating any wound on her body.
T A Kishore, urology consultant and transplant surgeon, said that the new method was successfully completed for the first time in the state by MTH. “A female donor’s kidney can be taken out through her vagina by making two holes with a width of one cm and half a cm, respectively,” he said.
“When the kidney is taken out through a cut, the surgeon takes the organ by his hand. But with the new method, the kidney is directly transferred to a customised bag. This facilitates the transplantation with less chance of infection,” he said.
