Gets life term for murder

The Ernakulam Second Additional Sessions Court on Friday awarded rigorous life imprisonment to Satheesh Chandran, of Vattiyoorkavu, Thiruvananthapuram, an accused in a murder case.

Sessions Judge P G Ajith Kumar also slapped a fine of Rs 60,000 on the accused for hacking to death Thankamma of Kadamattom, after stealing her gold ornaments on June 16, 2011. The victim had over nine wounds on her body, said  prosecutor P G Manu. The accused was sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for life and was imposed a fine of Rs 60,000 under Section 302 (murder) and seven years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 397 (robbery or dacoity, with attempt to cause death or grievous hurt).
