Entrance test: It’s all there on TV

Students, who are busy preparing for their entrance examinations, have something to rejoice. With the penetration of digital TV all over the country, especially in rural areas, they can now prepare for their entrance examinations by simply sitting in front of the TV.

Airtel DTH services, with the help of coaching institutes, like TIME, Aakash and Career Point, has come up with an idea of giving entrance coaching -- ‘iExam’ -- for students, just by switching on the TV. So, there is no need to pay exorbitant coaching fees.

“iExam is an interactive service which empowers students through high-quality tutoring at an affordable price in the convenience of their homes. And the best coaching centres are brought to their home with the real-time experience of interactive, mock and practice tests,” says Bharti Airtel CEO DTH/Media Shashi Arora.

At present, the entrance coaching services is provided only by the Airtel. The other DTH services are providing classes only for English and other subjects.  iExam provides coaching for  classes 8, 9 and 10 and for courses like Engineering, Medical, MBA Exams and the Bank Probationary Officer exam.

Usually, students would spend from Rs 50,000 to 3 lakh for coaching fees, now all they have to pay is `Rs 45 per week. “I am quite sure that every household has a TV at their homes,” says Arora. “Now, through these services students can save time and money. It is a unique advantage for households that do not have a computer.”

After subscribing to the service, students can select the list of subjects, schedule, free trials, and practice tests. These tests are updated every alternate day and can be taken at any time. There will be mock tests, which includes full syllabus tests, and are based on the actual exam format. Students are informed in advance when these tests can be taken.

Students can also practice the mock tests with the help of the TV remote.

At the end of the exam students are provided personalised score-cards and a result code. To know their all-India rank, students can SMS their result code to 54325.

In addition to their score, a personalised analytics report will also be displayed on the screen. Customers also have access to solved question papers with explanations. Incidentally, ‘iExam’ had won the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development Award for rural innovation for the year 2012.
