Nirmala College hopes to make it big in 2014

Nirmala College, Muvattupuzha, came to Goal 2013 with a strong wish to play the finals, after they tasted defeat in the semi-finals of Goal 2012 at the hands of Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur. The college, which has an illustrious past of producing outstanding sportsmen, remained true to its tradition.

Though the team was defeated by Sree Kerala Varma College in the finals, the college is   proud of reaching the finals of the football tourney. According to Abhil, defender, pre-tournament camps were insufficient for the team. “We are happy that we could enter the finals despite several odds,” he said.

Ardent fans of Argentina and playmaker Messi, the Nirmala College team said that the initiative of ‘Express’ in promoting student talent would have a long-term impact on the the fortunes of the game in the state.

Afsal, another player, pointed out that the wind conditions in the area made them weary during the initial games.

“Soon, we altered our techniques which made the game smoother,” he added. The team expressed happiness about its overall performance and hoped to make it big in the next edition.
