Global Healthcare meet from today

Kochi is all set to host the Global Healthcare Summit 2013, a major convention of healthcare practitioners and leaders of allied industries, that is to begin on Tuesday.

Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi will formally inaugurate the three-day mega event at Le Meridien Convention Centre at 6 pm. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will preside over the inaugural function.

The submit, happening for the first time in Kerala, is expected to open up new possibilities for the Indian healthcare sector through cost-effective and innovative solutions, global partnerships and new investments.

The conference, one of the largest gatherings of Indian medical diaspora, is being organised by the Association of American Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPIO) and Indian Medical Association (IMA) in association with the Union Ministries of Overseas Indian Affairs and Health.

“Delegates have come from all around the world, especially from the United States. Around 1000 delegates, including 300 physicians and surgeons from abroad, are participating,” said AAPI president and the chair of the summit Dr Narendra Kumar.

The objective is to advance the accessibility, affordability and quality of world-class healthcare to the people.

There will be plenary sessions, interactive round-tables, clinical practice workshops, meet-the-expert sessions and scientific poster session.

Union Ministers Ghulam Nabi Azad and K V Thomas and other dignitaries will attend.
