NCP-Congress alliance: Pawar hints at rethink

NCP national president wSharad Pawar has said that the party would seriously rethink its alliance with the Congress in the coming Lok Sabha and Assembly polls, if the latter continues the policy adopted during the Gujarat polls.  After discussions, the NCP was given nine seats in the Gujarat polls.

However, the Congress candidates contested five of the nine seats. Also, there were rebel Congress candidates contesting the remaining four seats, he pointed out.“This is not the way to work together. This is the reason why the BJP came to power in Gujarat. One has to work together and there should be honesty and commitment. If such a policy continues, we would give a serious thought about the alliance in the coming Lok Sabha and Assembly polls,” he said.

Pawar said that the NCP would support any new legislation to give harsher punishment to those indulging in atrocities against women.
