Specify minimum qualification for jobs: HC

The Kerala High Court on Tuesday held that job notifications should clearly communicate the essential qualifications required for each post in order to avoid unnecessary confusion.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice K Vinod Chandran made the observation while dismissing a petition filed by Rahul of Ernakulam challenging the Central government decision to cancel his application for the post of Ammunition Repair Labourer.

The petitioner submitted that he applied for the post and had written the examination. Later, the authorities called for interview as part of the selection procedure.

It was only during the interview that the authorities  mentioned about the qualification. The petitioner informed the panel that he had not passed Matriculation and immediately after that the authorities asked him to leave the  chamber, the petitioner pointed out.

The Central Government submitted that the minimum qualification required for such a post is Matriculation as per the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission.
