The fourth edition of the Kochi- Lakshadweep-Kochi offshore sailing race  organised by the Offshore Sailing Club (OSC) will be flagged off from the Naval Base on January 7.

Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Southern Naval Command Vice-Admiral Satish Soni will flag off the competition in which six teams will complete.

The teams will sail up to Androth Island and head back to Kochi. Offshore Sailing Club is an agency under the aegis of the Yachting Association of India and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

“Ocean sailing as a sport got a fillip after the India stopover of Volvo Ocean Race in Kochi 2008. OSC is dedicated to  promote ocean sailing and has been conducting races since then. The majority of the yachting championships are restricted to within 50 km of the coast. But this is competition which involves race at a stretch of 350 km,” said OSC Captain Jaswinder Singh.
