Kerala HC orders arrest of luxury vessel

The Kerala High Court on Friday directed the deputy conservator of the Cochin Port Trust to arrest a luxurious passenger vessel, MV Amet Majesty, and keep it under safe custody till the owner of the vessel furnishes a bank guarantee for a claim of Rs 51 lakh before the Registrar of the court.

Justice Harun Ul Rashid passed the order while considering an admiralty suit filed by Tradex Shipping Company Pvt Ltd, Chennai, seeking to arrest the vessel, which is now berthed at Cochin Port. The petitioner has raised appropriate commercial invoices for manning the crew members of the vessel. The owners failed to settle the same owing to their financial contingencies, Joy Thattil, counsel for the petitioner, submitted.
