Fort Kochi to host flower show

After Cochin Carnival and Biennale, the heritage city of Fort Kochi is set to host flower show. The Flower Show Fort Kochi, organised by the Cochin Horti Cultural Forum, will be held from February 23 to 26 at Fort Kochi South Beach.

Union Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies K V Thomas will inaugurate the show. Cohin Horti Cultural Form which organises the event  was formed with the participation of various socio-cultural organisations in the West Kochi region.

“Years back, Fort Kochi had pseudonym ‘garden city,’ The area was famous for its flora and fauna. The rain trees on the beach side and roadside still provide Fort Kochi an exotic beauty. Our effort is to regain the lost glory,” said Cochin Horti Cultural Forum president Maijo Augustine.

“A festival of fruits and vegetables is also being organised along with this expo. The exhibition will have the participation of the Kerala Agriculture university. Classes and training session for women on beekeeping and mushroom culture have been organised,” Augustine said.

“There will also be training on planting and protecting bonsai and Arthurian plants. Apart from the Agriculture University, major banks and public sector   undertakings have assured us to cooperate with the event. We expect around 1 lakh visitors for the event,” he said.
