Surplus land struggle enters phase II

The CPM activists on Friday erected huts on the surplus land they encroached, marking the beginning of the second phase of the struggle for land reforms. Party workers erected huts at 16 places in the district.

CPM Central Committee member M C Josephine inaugurated the second phase of the strike in Vennala. Speaking on the occasion, she said that surplus land should be given to the landless people. “The state government is trying to protect the interests of the land mafia. The agitation will continue till it is ensured that there are no landless people in Kerala,” she said.

On the 67 acres of land at Ulakappara in Vennala, 20 huts were erected. The strike was led by the Vyttila area committee of the Bhoo Samrakshana Samiti (Land Protection Committee).
