Water Resources Minister P J Joseph on Monday inaugurated the cleaning drive of Kadambrayar river at Edachira near Inforpark.
The cleaning drive has been launched to improve navigation and give a boost to tourism projects in the eastern part of the city. Joseph said that the Water Resources Department is aiming to revive the rivers plauged by pollution and water stagnation.
He said that the cleaning and rejuvenation of other rivers in the city are also under the consideration of the department. The Water Resources Department has set aside `4.5 crore for the cleaning of Kadambrayar.
After the cleaning drive is complete, side walls would be constructed across the river. In addition to that, three boat jetties would be constructed for resuming the boat services from Thevara to Vyttila Mobility Hub.
Benny Behanan MLA presided over the function, V P Sajeedran delivered the keynote address.
