Winning the 'special' way

With their stellar performances, the students of Sampoorna School for Children with Special Needs, Kaloor has been selected to participate in the Special School Kalolsavam-2013 (Kerala Youth Festival for the Differently Abled).

Sampoorna School and Nirmala Sadan Special School, Muvattupuzha are the only two schools that have passed the screentest from Ernakulam to participate in the festival.

The students of Sampoorna school won first prize with A grade in Group dance. Rahul George of the school also won A grade in painting and pencil drawing. “The students are all excited about their achievements, and are diligently practising for the upcoming event,” says G Premnath, the vice-president of the school.

The school started in 2008 has around 110 students, majority from the lower strata of the society. “Surprisingly, we have found that almost all the differently-abled children have some extra talent. The students of the school have been winners of the cultural event conducted by Bhavana public school for the last two years, and this year, they have bagged runner’s up position,” says Premnath. 

In the speacial school youth festival that was held at Thodupuzha, Ernakulam bagged the overall trophy in the mentally challenged category.
