'Reji extorted Rs 8 lakh from city doctor'

Police investigation has revealed that blackmailers had extorted Rs 8 lakh from a city doctor after forcibly taking his photographs with a woman in a compromising position.

The Palluruthy police on Saturday had arrested Reji, 36, of Pathanapuram in Kollam, on charges of threatening and blackmailing the doctor.

Libi and Shibi, the second and the third accused in the case, were yet to be arrested. The trio, who had been fleecing the doctor since 2001, had plans to extort more money from the doctor.

The doctor had allegedly developed an illicit affair with his nurse Libi in 2001. She was sacked after his wife objected to the relationship.

However, Liji’s then lover Reji started blackmailing the doctor by threatening to publicise the illicit affair.

Reji and Libi got married in 2006 and had been blackmailing the doctor together till 2012.

When the victim decided not to give any more money, Reji tricked him to come to a city lodge on November 20, 2012, and forcibly took his nude photographs with Libi.

Later, he started blackmailing the doctor and threatened to publicise the photographs if he failed to pay Rs 50 lakh.
