V Sunil Kumar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Crime Detachment Wing, will lead the investigation team probing the sexual harassment case against a Naval officer and his colleagues at the Southern Naval Command, Kochi.  Earlier, the probe team was being led by N R Jayaraj, Circle Inspector, Fort Kochi.

K G James, Kochi City Police Commissioner, said the decision was taken was on the basis of directions given by the police headquarters.

“The investigation team will remain the same. The only change is that an ACP has been attached to the case and he will head the team. Jayaraj will continue with the investigation team,” James said.

The sources said DGP K S Balasubramaniam had held a meeting with K Padmakumar, IG, Kochi Range, and James at Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday.

In the meeting, the DGP had discussed about the case.

He suggested James to appoint a higher-ranked officer in the investigation team in wake of High Court condemning police laxity in the case.
