Rain: K V Thomas visits relief camps

Union Minister of State for Food and Public Distribution K V Thomas visited relief camps in the Chellanam grama panchayat on Sunday. The Minister said instruction were given to the District Collector to provide them every facilities.

The camps have been opened at Chellanam St Mary’s High School and Puthanthodu Government HSS. There are 195 families - 525 members - in St. Mary’s High School. Puthanthodu Government HSS has 247 families with 523 members.

Most of them are from Muthukupuram, Arikuchira, Nadachiraa and from the nearby areas of Maliyaparambu School.

The Minister said he would hold discussions with the Chief Minister regarding the renovation of houses that were severely damaged in the heavy rain.

The issue of waterlogging will be sorted out on a long term basis, he said. In this regard, a detailed report on the damages caused in the panchayats will be submitted to the government. Chellanam grama panchayat president K P Thankachan, vice-president Lucy Rajan and members Mercy Raju, Lilly Raju and block panchayat member Usha Antony also accompanied the Minister.
