Rain wreaks havoc on suburbs

The incessant rain lashing the state for the past few days have wreaked havoc in various parts of the suburbs. Several incidents were  reported from Maradu, Kumbalam, Mulanthuruthy and Chottannikkara areas wherein houses were partially or fully damaged.

As per the data available with the local body officials, nearly 50 houses  were damaged in the rain fury.

Many houses were damaged after trees uprooted on them at Chellanam, Chathama and Udayathumvathil. According to the officials, several roads, residences and colonies in the areas were submerged causing hardships to people.

Meanwhile, Mardu Municipality Health Standing Committee chairman Abdul Majeed Master said they have been distributing food packets to the people in the affected area. “The task has been entrusted with the Kudumbhasree members. The people are now not able to cook as most of their houses are under water. So we are distributing free food packets,” he said.

Kumbalam Panchayat president M B Nathan said discussion are on to provide relief funds to affected people. “We are short of funds and have decided to seek more money from the state government,” Sathyan said.
