The residents in Tripunithura are up in arms against the apathetic attitude of the authorities in constructing and maintaining the roads in the area.
While the authorities cite the pipe-laying work conducted by the Kerala Water Authority as reason for the sorry state of the roads here, the residents blame the flaws in construction for the present condition.
“The surfacing of the roads was not undertaken properly. The PWD conducts road repair work every year, but it never lasts long. They undertake the work improperly as though they need to do the same next year too. There is no quality in the work undertaken by the PWD. For instance, the other parts of the road where KWA has not undertaken digging work has also developed potholes,” said Ramachandran, a resident of Tripunithura.
The local people say the condition of other by-lanes and pocket roads in the area are also similar.
“Now we are forced to use the by-lanes owing to traffic diversion that is in place for KWA work. Adding to the woes, the by-lanes, including the Kannankulangara-Gandhipuram road, Paliparabhukavu road, College road and Mekkara road have turned unusable for the commuters due to its dilapidated state,” said Biju, a shop owner at Kannankulangara. The reisdents have urged the authorities to conduct an immediate repair works on such road.
Meanwhile, the PWD officials refuted the allegations and said they were maintaining high standards while undertaking the road development work in the area.
